The Homegoing of Rick Watkins
Rick Watkins went to be with the Lord Monday, January 25 around 11:00 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate and honor Rick’s life will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, 2027 Emerywood Dr., on Thursday, January 28th at 4:00 PM. The family will receive visitors before the service, beginning at 3:15.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Watkins Children College Fund. Checks should be made out to St. Giles EPC with a note that it is for the fund.
From Pastor Steve Keller:
“I cannot thank you enough for the manner in which you have loved the Watkins, prayed for them and stood with them throughout this time. It is a truly heart-breaking situation for their family and for all of us. And yet, I rejoice that God has given us one another for “just such a time as this.” It blesses me beyond measure that together we are here to bear one another’s burdens.
Right now, I am reminding myself of God’s words to us about life and death in Ecclesiastes 3, “…that there is a God-appointed time to be born and to die…” I take great comfort in the fact that Rick’s death did not take God by surprise and that Rick understands the fullness of His plan right now. I can see him standing before Jesus right now in conversation as he’s being welcomed into Heaven.
One note of victory in all of this is that just last week – Rick and Emily finished the last revisions of the book he was writing.
For the sake of the family – I ask you to communicate as much as possible through the church office for a few days. If you have questions or want to know of any way you can help – call us first so that we can allow the family as much time and space as possible.
We should know the general details of the service by tomorrow and will communicate them as soon as possible.
Ecclesiastes 3 also tells us that there is a God -appointed time to mourn so may the Lord guide and be very present with each of you as you grieve.”
Love to you all in Christ – Steve
