The Dad Life

August 6, 2010 by

This video is hilarious! It’s a funny way of looking at the life of a dad. God has some stuff to say about our parents too though. In Ephesians 6:1, Paul the Apostle says this: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother…” According to God, honoring our parents is part of being a Christian! In fact, honoring our parents is an act of worship!

So here’s some questions to ponder for the week:
1. How are you honoring your parents right now?
2. Are there places where you aren’t honoring them… in your heart… or in your actions?
3. Do you ever pray for your parents?
4. Have you said “Thanks” lately to your parents for what they do for you?

If not… Here’s the Good News! Look to the Good News of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus (The Gospel).
Forgiveness: Jesus died for your sins so that you could be forgiven. But he also calls us to confess our sins and turn from them. Not honoring our parents is a sin. So confess any area of sin to Jesus and know that you’re forgiven because of the sacrifice of Jesus for you on the Cross
A New Life: Because Jesus has been raised from the dead and sits at the right hand of God the Father, He is able to change our hearts when we come to Him and repent for our sins. He gives us the Holy Spirit to change our hearts and give us the desire and ability to obey Him. So… ask the Lord to give you a heart that honors your mom and dad.

Yo. Yo. I’m starting this thing off because I’m hoping we get tons of comments!
I love this video. I think obeying your parents and loving them from your heart is part of honoring them. I think it can be hard at times, especially as a teen, but with God’s help, it’s exciting to think about seeing a change. It feels really good to say thanks to my mom and dad. I thank God that Jesus’ died so I could be forgiven for all the times I didn’t honor them. And I thank God that Jesus’ lives so He can help me live a new life in every way!!!

Hey….I can relate to that video. I like how it starts out with wearing socks with sandals. (I do that and do not care how strange it looks)

I am wearing the same golf shirts that I have been wearing for 15 years, and I do not care who knows about it or notices. Hey….they still fit. The under-arm stains are only noticeable if I raise my arms, and I sit on the front row at church so the only people that see that are the praise band and the pastor.

    Great video!!

I think to honor your parents is to respect them and their rules and guidelines for you. If they ask you to do something-do it the first time without them fussing at you. Knowing Jesus’ resurrection encourages me to honor my parents because when Jesus died and was resurrected I have a guarantee to heaven and when I am standing before the Lord I want him to be proud of what I have done in my earthly body including honoring my parents.

ps my favorite part of that song was the the 2nd dad was doing the garden rap

    Welcome to the Machine!

I was depressed watching that video. It does show there must be something to a man getting purpose out of providing, but at what cost?

    Begonias!
