“The Formation of Mature Disciples in Jesus Christ”
In the original language of the New Testament, the word for maturity is the Greek word TELEIOS (pronounced “Teh-lay-oss). Ephesians 4:13 gives us a perfect definition of teleioj. Paul writes “until we… become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” So what isTELEIOS or maturity? Its “attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Or, more simply put… “being like Jesus Christ.” This is one of the high goals of our Christian faith – Christ-likeness.
There are at least three primary areas in which God calls us to Christ-likeness: Upward, Inward and Outward. He is calling us to Upward Maturity: Christ-likeness as a worshipping community. He is calling us to Inward Maturity: Christ-likeness in our attitudes, thoughts and beliefs. And He is calling us to Outward Maturity: Christ-likeness in the way we love and serve the world.
As a formational community, we believe that the Holy Spirit is present with us at all times and that one of His primary works is to form us into Christ-like disciples. We see this formation happening daily through teaching, laughter, service, suffering, worship and in all that we do and are in the Lord. This is our joy and our hopeful expectation at Teleios … that God would be glorified through all that we do as we are conformed into the image of His Son.
